Piggy Bank

In the early 20th century, piggy bank is popular among collectors. It is also refers as "still bank", when compare to the customary way of banking. Piggy Bank is a name given for coin accumulation or storage container, typically made of ceramic or porcelain. To recover the coins inserted, the bank must be broken open. However, the modern bank has a rubber plug located on the underside.

But why is it called Piggy Bank and not Doggy or Cat Bank? Hmm....

Back then, there was an english word, "pygg", a name of an orange clay. It was used for making all kinds of household objects, including things for storing money. It was later when "pygg" was pronounced like "pig", and the banks were shaped like pigs as a joke. Nowadays, Piggy Bank are not limited to the likeness of Pigs, but in range of animals, shapes, materials and sizes.

Great Eastern turns 100th on 26th August 2008. That mean Celebrations...

But before going into all the party and dancing part.. let begin with a brief history of the company.

Great Eastern was founded on 26 August 1908, Singapore, the company has the distinctive of being the oldest life insurance company in Southeast Asia. Before long, the company was writing policies in Borneo and other countries and is now one of the leading insurance company in Brunei.

OK...that enough for the history part...Now it is time for Celebrations...
